While showcases are useful, they have the drawback of featuring so many players and teams that colleges must make compromises about whom they watch. This might mean you’re the unlucky player who gets skipped. We address this issue with our college combine. Over the past three years, we have brought in more than 75 college coaches to watch only our players. Over a two-day period, you will have the opportunity to train and play games in front of coaches who are there solely to watch you.
With long-standing personal connections and over 45 years of experience in youth, college, and professional coaching, Bruce Talbot and Houston FC are excited to host this two-day combine, which has drawn more than 75 college coaches over the past five years.
The combine includes three sessions. The first day will have training sessions in the morning and afternoon. The second day will have a training session in the morning. Each session will last 1.5 to 2 hours and will focus on technical and tactical skills, along with speed, agility, and strength. Activities will include individual drills, small-sided exercises, and full-field games. Players are not only showcased but also exposed to the standards and expectations of the attending collegiate coaches.
We will also have one Q&A session following the Saturday afternoon practice where college coaches can address questions about the tactical, technical, psychological, and physical aspects of college and professional soccer.
Players are expected to bring cleats, running shoes, shin guards, an HFC training kit or plain white shirt, and water.
Please note that these are competitive training sessions for prospective collegiate soccer players. Players aged 13 and under who are not yet ready are encouraged to contact Coach Connor for more information about our academy and youth camps.
