About UPSL

HFC in UPSL

Houston FC joined the UPSL in 2018. Since then, we have made deep runs in the playoffs, advancing as far as the Central Conference semi-finals.

We primarily field players under the age of 23, including high school, gap year, collegiate, and post-collegiate athletes. Since UPSL is considered a semi-professional league, it attracts an older cohort of players and teams. We find this enriching for our younger players, as it allows them to compete against more experienced opponents—an example of our play-up philosophy.

About UPSL

The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is a national, semi-professional soccer league in the United States. Founded in 2011, it provides a competitive platform for amateur and aspiring professional players, clubs, and organizations. The UPSL is part of the U.S. soccer pyramid but operates independently from professional leagues like the MLS and USL.

The league is divided into regional conferences across the country to minimize travel costs and foster local rivalries. It features multiple divisions, including the Pro Premier Division, Division I, and Division II, with a promotion and relegation system.

The UPSL is unique in offering two seasons per year, Spring and Fall, giving players and teams more competitive opportunities. Acting as a pathway to professional soccer, the league has seen several players move on to higher levels, such as the USL, MLS, or overseas competitions.

The UPSL includes a diverse mix of community-based teams, youth academies, and clubs with professional aspirations, encouraging grassroots development. Its accessibility, competitive environment, and visibility make it an essential part of the U.S. soccer ecosystem.
